Roland J. Yack age 95 of Midland died at the home of his daughter in Ann Arbor, MI on Monday, August 29, 2011.

The son of the late Fredrick and Augusta (Hines) Yack was born on June 29, 1916 in Midland where he was raised and educated. Roland had served in the Army during WWII and had attended Michigan State University. He married the former Abby Houghtaling on October 22, 1942 and she preceded him in death on July 8, 1998.

Roland worked for the Dow Chemical Co., retiring in 1962 from Industrial Relations. Roland was well known in the Midland area for his sports activities with the Dow AC’s. He played on the American Legion Basketball Team and in 1947 was on the team that won the National Championship and he also played on the AC’s softball team and later played softball for the Stearns Motors. He was mentioned by the Midland Daily News to be considered as one of Midland’s Greatest Athletes. Roland was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the Berryhill Post #165 of the American Legion.

He was also a member of the Midland Country Club where he golfed until the age of 92. Roland enjoyed his daily routine of exercising at the Dow Exercise Facility and then meeting friends at the Big Boy for many years.

Roland is survived by his daughter Marjory (Michael) Ruedisale of Ann Arbor; grandchildren Cyle (Michael) Ericksen and Stephanie Ruedisale; one great grandchild Miles Ericksen and his sister Eleanor Niemiec. He was predeceased by his sons James Yack and John R. Yack.
