BRIDGEWATER – Roland J. Deslauriers, Jr. of Bridgewater and Prince Edward Island, Canada, 61 years old, died in a tragic airplane accident at Taunton Municipal Airport on Sunday morning August 25, 2013.
Born in Brockton, August 23, 1952, he was the only son of Roland J. Deslauriers, Sr. and Viola (Catrabone) Deslauriers of Brockton. He was raised in Brockton and graduated from Southeastern Regional Technical Vocational High School and East Coast Aeronautical School. He was in the U.S. Army and National Guard. He started working construction with his father, Dana Construction, and later had his own business, Central Construction. He had been working in construction for nearly 40 years. He also taught a course on carpentry at Brockton High School. More recently, he was working at Home Depot in Avon.
He was an avid pilot, enjoyed fishing, boating, owned a boat with his father, was a motorcyclist, skydiver, scuba diver, member of the pilots’ “Breakfast Club” at Taunton Municipal Airport, member of the Outdoorsmen’s’ Club of East Bridgewater and a racecar driver at Prince Edward Island. He also enjoyed NASCAR, bungee jumping, traveling, was an adventure seeker with a passion for the outdoors and loved his animals. He lived his life to the fullest and on his own terms.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Carol (Deslauriers) Conley, of Brockton, and Jean (Butler) Sullivan, of Hull; his nephews, John Butler, of Mesa, Arizona, Edward Conley of Rockland and his niece, Christine (Conley) Freeman of Taunton. He is also survived by his long time companion, Barbara Barry. He will be loved and missed by many relatives, friends and all who knew him.
