Roger William Long, 73, of Meredosia, died Monday, April 2, 2012, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
He was born November 2, 1938, in Chambersburg, the son of Albert Nellie Lerch Long.
He is survived by three children; one brother, David (wife, Judy) Long of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews, including Ernie (companion, Heather Myers) Wheeler, Lola (husband, Ron) Carlin, David Russell (wife, Jennifer) Long and Cory (Marybeth) Long, all of Bluffs, Amy (companion, Cliff Provo) Long of Jacksonville, Justin Long of Auburn, and Ron (wife, Tammy) Long and Rodney (wife, Pam) Long, both of Cornell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Wheeler; brothers Chester and Andrew Long; and a sister and brother in infancy, Aretta and Lester Long.
Mr. Long was a retired heavy equipment operator. He was always willing to help a friend. Roger enjoyed playing cards and pool, listening to his scanner, and especially enjoyed telling stories.
