He lived his entire life in Idaho Falls, with the exception of a few years during World War II when his family moved to Athol, Idaho. He graduated from Idaho Falls High School, Class of ‘55, where he lettered in boxing. It was in high school where he joined the DeMolay and began a life of civic responsibility. Later, he joined the JayCees.

On July 12, 1957, he married Hazel Mary Larson. They honeymooned along the Pacific Northwest coast. They were blessed with three children, Roger, Christine and Kendra. Dix and Hazel made their home in Idaho Falls, where Dix worked first as a home builder, then in Property Management for the Atomic Energy Commission/ERDA/Department of Energy. For several years during the mid 1960’s, he could be found on a Thursday through Saturday night tending bar at the Stardust.
