Roger H. Dornink, 84, of Freeport, died Sunday, February 6, 2011 at Manor Court.

Born January 14, 1927 in Freeport he was the son of Howard and Jesse (Newcomer) Dornink. He married Betty Banter November 19, 1949 and she died November 22, 1980. He married Shirley Brechtel Dir February 5, 1982.He was a graduate of Dakota High School. Roger was a lifetime farmer. His memberships included, Embury United Methodist Church for over 50 years, Board member of AMPI and Stephenson Service Company, 4-H Foundation, Director of the former State Bank, Stephenson County Zoning Board, Stephenson County Farm Bureau, and Republican Precinct Committeeman. Roger was an avid bowler and traveler. In his youth he was a member of Sea Faring Cowboys which delivered horses to Poland and cattle to China after World War II.

Surviving is his wife, Shirley of Freeport; 3 daughters, Sherry (Alan) Flack of Shannon, Diane (Duane) Schurch of Orangeville, and Julie Pennington of Russellville, Alabama; 1 son, Larry (Carol) Dornink of Cumming, Georgia; 3 stepdaughters, Morayne “Sue” Dir, Claudia Brock, and Patricia Meinert all of Freeport; 1 sister, Jean (Carl) Cahoon of Orangeville; his grandchildren, Tom and Rebecca Flack, Tiffany Martin, Tammy (Anthony) Buich, Tim Schurch, Casey Pennington, Tracey (Lucas) Kempel, Pierce, Anna, and Caris Dornink; his step-grandchildren, Eric Lehman, Calli (David) Almasy, Michael Lawson, and Sarah (Paul) Gerke; 5 great grandchildren; 2 sisters in-law, Dorothy Dornink of Galva and Jo Dornink of Freeport; 1 brother in-law, Dick Banter of Rochester, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty; 4 brothers; and 1 granddaughter.
