Roger E. Long, age 85 of Algona, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. Roger Eugene Long, the son of Fred and Anna Bertine (Christensen) Long, was born on April 17, 1933 in Clear Lake, Iowa. Roger attended Country School and graduated from Manly High School in 1950. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On January 14, 1956 Roger was united in marriage with Mae Fern Jenson in Manly, Iowa. Roger began working in Algona 60 years ago delivering milk door to door for Carnation. He then sold Real Estate in the Algona area for 44 years. Roger loved to walk around town and visit with his friends. He remembered everyone’s birthday and always had a hug or a handshake for everyone. He always stayed positive and was a walking example of the kindness you find in a small town. Roger loved his family and enjoyed sharing ice cream, cake donuts and orange soda with them. Left to cherish Roger’s memory is his wife of 63 years, Mae; daughters, Debbie Ann Long of Manson, Sandra K. Buscher and her husband Tom of Algona, Cynthia Mae Anderson and her husband Jay of Grand Junction, CO and Bonnie Jo Hahn and her husband Mike of St. Peter, MN; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Liz Buckland and her husband Russ of Ankeny. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Christin Kay Buscher; and a grandson, Matthew Jon Long.
