Roger E. Downs, Sr., age 83, longtime resident of Milford and beloved husband to the late Shirley Hadden Downs, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Masonic Home of Wallingford. Born in Torrington, CT on October 8, 1927, he was the son of the late Edwin and Ethel Downs. Roger served with pride and honor in the US Army from September of ’46 to March of ’48. He was a Master Carpenter by trade and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America and more recently the Bayfront Carvers of Port Richey, FL. Roger was an avid hunter and belonged to the Woodmont Farmers & Sportsmen Club and the Milford Bowhunters, as well as the Jolly Mariners and the VFW. Roger was also a devoted and proud member of the Ansantawae Lodge # 89 A.F & A.M.
He is survived by his cherished son, Roger Downs, Jr. and his wife Laura of Milford and his grandson Kyle of Caanan and several nieces and nephews.
