Roger “Bud” Shipler, age 76 of Burt, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016. Roger Earl Shipler was born on September 3, 1939, in Burt to Earl E. and Eva L (Stewart) Shipler. He attended Portland #6 Country School until freshman year when he started Burt Schools where he graduated in 1957.

Bud was an honorable, patriotic man and enlisted in the Army National Guard on May 17, 1961. He was honorably discharged on May 16, 1967. On September 2, 1978, Bud was united in marriage to Lois McFarland at the Burt Presbyterian Church. Bud started farming in 1958 with his brother Boyd and the duo continued for 57 years. He retired in November of 2015. He was a member of the Burt Presbyterian Church where he served as an Usher and a past Trustee. Bud and Lois loved to travel and were able to see many places. He loved spending time with his three granddaughters and he was always helping them in any way he could. Bud enjoyed visiting with his many friends and he was the type to stay very busy whether it be helping others or taking care of his lawn.

Bud is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lois of Burt; son Jamie McFarland of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Aurora, Madison and Mariah McFarland; siblings, MaryLou (Don) Mankle of Curlew, Boyd (Rosann) Shipler of Burt, Marcia (Frank) Coco of Des Moines and Max Shipler of Pahrump, Nevada; sister-in-law, Mary Gifford of Burt; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Cheryl) McFarland of Fairmont, Minnesota, Ken McFarland of Algona and Richard Steward of Burt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Eva Shipler; parents-in-law, Harley and Dorothy McFarland; brothers-in-law, Phil McFarland and Jerry Gifford and sister-in-law, Connie Steward.
