Roger August Scharf, 87, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2021.
Roger was born September 1, 1934, in Belleville, KS, to Forrest and Opal (Lakey) Scharf. He married Arlene Rheuport on January 31, 1959 and remained happily married for over 62 years. He had a special bond with his wife that endured. He truly loved and cared for her.
Roger was a Christian, family man. He loved his family and faith above everything. He spent his life creating and cultivating a family that now benefits from the many sacrifices that he made. He was very proud of the achievements of his children and grandchildren.
Roger loved many outdoor activities such as pheasant and duck hunting, fishing, golfing, camping, gardening and softball. He was also a bowler for many years and enjoyed playing Fantasy Football with his children and grandchildren (he was quite good at it). He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and admired Vince Lombardi.
He was the owner of Office Specialty Company for many years. He was a successful engineer for Ford Motor Company and John Deere in the earlier days of his career. He designed various products such as hay balers and created innovative approaches to numerous manufacturing processes.
Roger is survived by his wife, Arlene Scharf; sons, Todd (Michele) Scharf of Waukee, IA, David (Maren) Scharf of Urbandale, IA; daughter, Kile (Rex) Beisner of Urbandale, IA; as well as 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Scharf; sister, Natalie Fouch.
