Roger Allen Baldwin, 52, of Kalamazoo, died at his residence on the morning of Friday, December 16, 2016. He was born February 9, 1964 in Warren, Ohio, a son of George and Judy Baldwin. Roger graduated from Niles McKinley High School in 1982 where he played football and basketball. A summer internship with the Ohio Department of Transportation led Mr. Baldwin to pursue a Civil Engineering degree.

He joined ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) and served as president of Sigma Chi fraternity at Youngstown State University, where he put himself through college. He provided seven years of service in the US Army Reserves, finishing with the rank of Field Artillery Captain.

Mr. Baldwin considered himself very fortunate to work in the specialized field of geotechnical construction throughout his entire career. He began at Lang Tendons Inc. (now at DSI), followed by Hydro Group (now Layne Geo), Shaft Drilling International (SDI), and lastly, Nicholson Construction Company, where he spent the majority of his career. He was involved with and worked on many high profile dams, tunnels, bridges and structures throughout the country.

Having previously traveled to southwest Michigan, Roger handpicked the Kalamazoo area and moved his family here in 2004 to open a Midwest office for Nicholson Construction.

Roger took great pride in his family and in providing for them. He enjoyed watching his childrens’ sporting events, rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Ohio State Buckeyes, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Suzann Baldwin, whom he married 11/25/88; three sons, Aidan (Indianapolis), Gowan and Heath (Kalamazoo), and a daughter, Hope (Kalamazoo). Family in the Warren, Ohio area include his mother, Judy Huey; sister, Rhonda Amorganos, brother, Russell Baldwin; and a dear aunt, Carrie Gifford. Roger also leaves to cherish his memory his aunt, Dianne Lucero (Phoenix, AZ) and his aunt, Peggy Martin (Orlando, FL).
