Roger Alan Zobel, 78, died September 16, 2021 at Edgewater Community, West Des Moines.

Roger was born on September 19, 1942 to Elmer and Gertrude (Olstead) Zobel. He grew up in Lake Park, Iowa. He attended college at South Dakota State University, where he earned a degree in pharmacy. On June 19, 1965, he was united in marriage to Jane Gillespie.

Roger practiced in many areas of the pharmacy profession, including as a compliance officer for the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners. He also served two terms as president of the Dallas County Board of Health. Music was always an important part of Roger’s life. In college he played in a band and during summer vacations the band traveled to many places in the Midwest. He and his fellow band members were later inducted into the South Dakota Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He also composed music and made several recordings of the compositions.

Roger volunteered his time in many activities throughout his life. He was a Deacon and an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, serving three terms on the Westminster session, as well as chairing countless boards and committees. Roger served as an officer in the Chemical Corps of the U.S. Army

Roger is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jane; his son, Mark A. Zobel; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth W. Zobel; granddaughter, Bailey Anne Zobel; two sisters, Rebecca Groff of Cedar Rapids and Katherine Greiner of Flint, Michigan and several nieces and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Russell.
