Rodney Fitzgerald Dixon, 49, of Cromwell, departed this life on Sunday, March 16th surrounded by his family at Middlesex Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on August 10, 1964 in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Frank and Margaret (Reeves) Dixon. Rodney was raised by his Uncle Will Oliver and Aunt Bettye Oliver. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School and Middlesex Community College receiving an Associate Degree in Graphic Arts. He also attended baseball umpiring school in Coco, FL and was a member of both Middletown and Hartford Boards of Approved Baseball Umpires. He was employed by Lowe’s Home Improvement Store as a Manager and was also a member of the ELKS BPOE #771. Rodney loved to umpire baseball games, play cards and just hanging out with his friends. Along with his Uncle Will and Aunt Bettye, Rodney is survived by five sisters, Deborah Kaye Smith (Anthony) of CO, Meridian Oliver of GA, Debra Oliver of Middletown, Tayna Oliver-Perry (Chris) of Middletown and Tammi Brown (Joel) of GA; his nieces, Kitima Williams (Quintin) of CO, Demetress Washington (Terrell) of Middletown, Mallory Perry of Middletown and Arianna Brown of GA; his nephews, Curtis Calloway, Jr. (Ericka) of CO, Chris “Alex” Perry, Jr. of Middletown and Jordan Brown of GA; many wonderful friends and a host of great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
