Rodger E. Young, 78, passed away on Tuesday, March 6th in his loving home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. He was the husband of Rita F. (Leiderman) Young for 59 years, celebrating their anniversary on Valentines Day. Born in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Russell and Margaret (Deschler) Young. A 1952 graduate of Liberty High School, he was employed by the Bethlehem Steel in the Printery. He also served in the U.S. Navy Reserve during World War II. He was a police officer for the City of Bethlehem and a charter bus driver for Boro Busses of Allentown. He was also a sales representative for All-Seasons RVs. He completed his career at the Bethlehem Steel as the executive chauffeur, retiring in 1996. Following his love for golf after his retirement, he was a golf starter at the Saucon Valley Country Club. His passions were golfing, camping and traveling, which were all reflected in his career choices. He had a beautiful tenor voice, and was a longtime member of the Edgeboro Moravian Church choir. He was also an avid Phillies and Eagles fan and had a love for airplanes and flying. Survivors: Daughters, Susan, wife of Kenneth Haas of Westerville, Ohio and Laurie, wife of Todd Schwepfinger of Allentown; Grandsons, Ryan and Andrew Schwepfinger; Brother, Stanley Young and Sister, Barbara Schmoltze in Florida. He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Young of Bristol, CT.
