Roderick A. “Dick” Cormier, 92, husband of Claire (Chamberland) Cormier, of Newington, passed away peacefully at Hartford Hospital on Sunday, December 6, 2020. Dick was born on March 23, 1928, to the late Come and Azilda (Lajoie) Comier, in Cyr Plantation, Maine. Roderick was one of sixteen children. He worked the family farm until he was called to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the US and the Azores. When he was discharged from the service he moved to Connecticut where he met and married Claire who he was married to for 58 years. They lived in Hartford for a time until moving to the town of Newington where he spent the rest of his life. He was a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and spent his later years enjoying his timeshare in Aruba. Many weekends were spent with family at the cottage he helped build on Lake Williams in Lebanon, CT where he could be found playing horseshoes. Saturday nights were spent playing cards, mostly Bloute, until the wee hours of the morning. He and Claire helped take care of their grandsons while their parents were working. Pepere made many trips to McDonald’s with the boys which probably included way too many ice-cream cones. He loved going to the ballpark to watch his boys play and cheer them on.
