Roderick C. Hess, age 90 of Coleman, passed away on Wednesday January 25, 2017 at his daughter’s home surrounded by his family. The son of the late Edwin C. and Elna D. (Wells) Hess was born in Midland on May 21, 1926 where he was raised and educated. Roderick served in the United States Army during World War II.

He had been employed with The Dow Chemical Co. until his retirement. He was also a self-employed sign painter of which he made a hobby of. Roderick enjoyed playing the harmonica, being outdoors hunting and spending time with his grandkids. In July of 1947 Roderick married Faye E. Morley. She died in May of 1987. He then married Lola Geiling on November 19, 1988. She survives him.

Also surviving are his son, Larry (Chris) Hess of Beaverton; daughters, Paula (Tom) Mogg, Vicki (Eldon) Gross all of Coleman, Kathy (George) Grover of Chesaning; daughter in law, Connie Hess of Coleman; step daughters, Pam (Rich) Hintz, Randi Merrington all of Midland, Patti (Rick) Coleman, Holly (Steve) Kosnik all of Florida; 24 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild. In addition to his parents Roderick was preceded in death by an infant son little Rod Hess; son, Terry D. Hess; granddaughter, Jodi Mogg; brothers, Ed and Ward Hess; sisters, Naomi Furlan and Sharon Hess.
