Roberta Mae Woolston of Hebron, NE the daughter of Winnie and Fern (Howard) Hester was born at Beaver City, NE on September 16, 1919. She departed this life on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home in Hebron, NE at the age of 88 years.
Roberta was the oldest of four daughters. Her father was a farmer and then worked for the gas company. Roberta grew up in Beaver City and graduated from high school there. She completed her teaching degree and graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. She immediately began teaching in country schools in the Beaver City, Cambridge, and Ruskin areas. Roberta spent the greater number of years teaching kindergarten in Hebron. She was well known and respected in the community.
Roberta met Robert Daniel Woolston when he came to Beaver City with the WPA. After the couple married, Bob went to Alaska to help build the Alaskan Hi Way and Roberta stayed home to take care of the house. He learned to be a surveyor there. In the fall of 1958 the family moved to Hebron and lived on Main street in Hebron.
Roberta was an active member of the community and especially her church. She volunteered at Blue Valley Community Action and at Things and Stuff. She has been an avid reader and has donated magazine subscriptions to Blue Valley Nursing Home. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles in the daily newspaper.
Roberta is preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister, her husband Robert, and daughter-in-law Kathleen Woolston, 2 brother-in-laws: Dean Blincow and Jim Bose.
Roberta is survived by her daughter Mary Bowen and husband Vaughan of Lincoln, NE, sons Robert and wife Dianna of Portland, OR, and Finley and wife Karen of Jacksonville, NC, three sisters Bonita Dusenberry and husband Don of Arapahoe, NE, Pauline Blincow of Oxford, NE and Donna Bose of Stanford, NE, grandchildren; Linda Price and husband John of Denver, CO, Diane Bowen of Lincoln, NE, Dr. Richard Bowen and wife Nika of Hastings, NE, Michael Bowen and wife Casey of Omaha, NE, John Woolston and wife Traci of Virginia Beach, VA, Amy Woolston from Japan, 8 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
