Roberta L. Norton, 77. Roberta went to be with the Lord on November 10, 2017.

Roberta was born in New York City and soon relocated to Yonkers, NY. Roberta always entertained pleasant memories of Yonkers surrounded by grandparents and aunts. Over the course of her childhood, she moved to Florida, and several towns on Long Island (LI), NY. Roberta lived in Vancouver, WA for six years before moving to Temple, TX.

Roberta obtained her undergraduate degree from Misercordia University in Dallas, PA, due to the generosity of the Sisters of Mercy, with whom she spent nine years. Roberta received her Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Adelphi University, LI, NY. Roberta taught in both public and parochial schools in NY and PA.  Roberta also enjoyed being a homemaker and mother for many years.

Roberta gained pleasure from non-fiction reading and gardening. She felt privileged to be part of the Temple community. Roberta also took interest in the light and aspirations of the cognitively impaired community.

Since arriving in Temple in 2005, Roberta attended Temple Bible Church (TBC) where she acquired spiritual solace and comfort from the TBC congregational singing program.  While at TBC, Roberta often expressed gratitude to God for her wonderful late mother, Agnes Reilly as well as her step-father, Bernie Reilly.

She was grateful to the doctors, nurses, and supportive staff at Scott and White.

Roberta is survived by her husband of 47 years, Frank Norton, and her only daughter, Mary Chamberlin of Temple, who proved to be a lifelong friend and confidant.  Roberta also took much pride in her only son James Norton, a longtime employee of the local Goodwill store.

Roberta was also blessed to have sisters Marylou Brennan, Betsy Vicino (and husband Joe), and Anne Lang (and husband George), plus her brother “J.P.” Reilly (and wife Bonnie), and late brother Paul Reilly.  She gratefully appreciated her sister-in-law and friend, Joyce Reilly and sister-in-law, Margaret Lawton. She appreciated her helpful son-in-law, Mat Chamberlin. Roberta’s three young Temple grandchildren brought her much satisfaction in life.
