Roberta E. Jacobson, 85, of Freeport, died Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Manor Court in Freeport.

Born December 27, 1925 in Chicago she was the daughter of James and Melba (McMichael) Bickley. She married Harry Jacobson September 2, 1950 in Homewood, Illinois. Roberta received her RN from Evanston Hospital in Evanston and her BSN from the College of St. Francis in Joliet. She was an RN for Freeport Memorial Hospital and then a school nurse for 17 years for the Freeport School District. A member of Freeport United Presbyterian Church she was a Sunday school teacher and a former member of the Mariner’s group.

Roberta was the first woman elected to the Freeport Presbyterian Governing Board. She was a member and past president of the Freeport chapter of PEO. Roberta enjoyed traveling having visited 48 states and Alaska. She and her husband traveled to Europe three times telling everyone that Greece was her favorite country.

Surviving are her husband of Freeport; 2 sons, William (Kate) Jacobson of Hawaii and Bruce David (Beth) Jacobson of Eagle River, Wisconsin; 2 daughters, Jane Elizabeth (Michael) Taft of Lena and Mary Sue (James) Neff of Gratiot, Wisconsin; her sister, Barbara Hunter of Winona, Minnesota; her brother, David (Elsie) Bickley of Columbus, GA; 10 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 granddaughter, Brie Hoefle; and 1 sister, Suzanne Greenman.
