Robert (Bob) Yen Jr. died on January 2nd, 2019 peacefully in his sleep following a long illness. He was 54 years old. Bob walked to the beat of his own drum and lived every day of his life on his own terms. He was born in São Paulo, Brazil to Robert D. Yen and Miyuki Matsumoto on July 5 th , 1964, and began his journey as a U.S. citizen a few years later. After overcoming numerous obstacles to pursuing his own ambitions throughout his childhood, he dedicated his life to helping others find and pursue their own passions. His personal motto, “the greatest gift anyone can give is to inspire others” became his practice, and benefitted many. As a spiritual man, Bob spent much of his time reflecting and pondering the meaning of life. Up until the end, he continued to realize his own purpose by trying new things, mastering hobbies to a level of perfection that few could endure, and engaging in meaningful conversations with family and friends. Many in the music industry knew Bob as an extremely talented multi-instrumental musician, collaborator, engineer and record producer. He began his musical career in Denver, Colorado where he opened his first recording studio. He then went on to create the Musicians Development Institute in Cedarville, Massachusetts in 1991, where he helped countless musicians achieve their goals. His business lives on as Area Twenty-Two today. Bob’s interests went well beyond music throughout his life. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, flying remote control helicopters, skillfully conducting marine biology experiments, and creating visual art. As a father, Bob committed himself to exploring, playing and teaching his children life lessons in humorous and unusual ways. He led them on adventures including fossil hunting and exploring tide pools for critters, took them to movies, and introduced them to culinary delights from around the world. This continued well into their adulthood, and he never tired of creative discovery in one form or another. He was a unique father and will be missed greatly. His final resting place is to be in Denver, Colorado at the family memorial. He is survived by his two daughters Kristin and Jayme Yen, their mother Sarah, his two sons-in- law Jamie Binns and Jean-Paul Morais, and his granddaughter Inara Yen. Bob always believed that the good and bad things in his life happened for a reason, and he was grateful for all of it. So, for one last time, on behalf of Bob, in his own words:“For all that has been bestowed upon me, I give thanks.”
