Robert Shuey of Pine City passed away on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at his home on the Shuey Farm at the age of 91.
Robert Wiseman Shuey was born on June 28, 1931, to Clair and Ruth (Wiseman) Shuey on the family farm east of Pine City, Minnesota. And, as Rob would often say, “On that day, the temperature reached 102 degrees and it never exceeded that since the day I was born”. He worked alongside his father, Clair, on the family dairy farm, where he learned the value of integrity and being a man of his word. He graduated from Pine City High School in 1949. He served in the army at Fort Hood, Texas, from 1954-1956. While in the army, he met his future wife while attending church in Belton, Texas. In 1957, Rob married Lola “Virginia” Hair and they honeymooned up to Minnesota to the farm. They raised four children: Joyce, David, Lola and Mary Lou. They enjoyed many years together raising their children on their busy dairy farm and had the privilege of being a big part of their grandchildren’s lives.
Rob was involved in many different organizations over the years: he served on the East Central Electric Board, Pine City School Board (34 years), the Pine City Cooperative Board, to name a few. Church was an important priority throughout his life, he had the joy of the Lord in his heart and he lived out his faith in the way he treated people and made them feel. Most recently, he was active in the Pine City Area History Association, and really enjoyed meeting weekly with fellow lovers of Pine City history. He had an infectious smile, an amazing love of people and strived to encourage positive things in people’s lives.
Rob is survived by his wife of 65 years Lola “Virginia” (Hair) Shuey; children: David (Joanne) Shuey, Lola (Mark) Nisley, and Mary Lou (Dave) Bryngelson; 7 grandchildren: Eric Shuey, Paul Shuey, Daniel (Kristina) Shuey, Brian Shuey, Kimberly (David) Baxter, Aaron Nisley and Sarah Nisley; 5 great-grandchildren: Adalyn Shuey, Eliya Shuey, Clair Shuey, Vivian Shuey, Jordan Baxter and Lydia Shuey; three sisters: Dianne Strom, Mary Lou (Merlyn) Johnson and Pat (Butch) Stenmo; sister-in-law Joyce Hair; many beloved nieces and nephews, other family members and countless friends.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents, Clair and Ruth (Wiseman) Shuey and stepmother Louise (Engler) Shuey; dear daughter, Joyce Shuey; brother Raymond (Jeanette) Shuey; half brother Kenneth (Harriet) Bloom; sisters Alice (Bob) Deweese and Phyliss Shuey; brothers-in-law Vernon Rude, Glen Strom, David Nylen and David Hair.
