LIFE’S WORK

Robert William “Bobby” DeShields, the son of Hazel Geraldine DeShields-Oglesby and Fossil Johnson, was born on August 13, 1934, and peacefully departed this life on October 16, 2016.                                          LIFE’S RACE

                                           Well Run

Bobby was a man’s man!  He loved the outdoors and was an excellent swimmer. As a former Director for the National Branch of the YMCA, he would train life guards. Bobby was also an enigma.  He was allergic to fish and seafood, but loved to go fishing! As an avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching and keeping abreast of the current events in track and field, basketball, baseball, and football. His favorites were the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. Although Bobby was passionate about many things, more than anything he truly loved and adored his family.

                                       LIFE’S CROWN

                                           Well Worn

Bobby was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and battled it the way he lived his life, on his own terms.  Despite the length of his illness, he kept his unforgettable wit and fierce determination.  Nothing about the disease could dim his colorful personality, it always managed to show up and shine through! He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Beverly Howett-DeShields; daughters Eartha Williams (Brian) and Shonda DeShields; grandchildren Jon Robert DeShields, Isaiah Williams and John Williams; sister Shirley DeShields-Greene (James), niece Sheila DeShields, and large extended family and friends.   He was preceded in death by his parents Hazel Geraldine Oglesby and Fossil Johnson, stepfather Luther Oglesby, nephew Brandon Michael DeShields, niece Sharon Lavon DeShields; Aunts Mary Agnes Darden, Sarah Ann Dickerson,  and Zilda Pinckens.
