Robert W. Rabold, Sr., 85, formerly of the 300 block of Woodland Avenue, died Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Rose View Center.
Bob and his wife, the former Hedwig S. Weselsky, observed their 62nd wedding anniversary May 28, 2009.
Bob attended the public schools of McKees Rocks, graduating in 1941. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 66th Infantry Division in Europe, earning the Bronze Star and also serving during the Korean War, training recruits at Ft. Bragg, N.C.
Bob graduated from the Pennsylvania State University, in 1949, with a B.A. degree in economics; from the University of Pittsburgh, in 1950, with a M.A. degree in economics and from the same university, in 1955, with a PhD in economics.
Bob served in various capacities with the Pittsburgh Ordinance District, Department of the Army between 1951 and 1955. He also was a foreign trade specialist with the Pittsburgh office of the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Bob taught courses in economics at Lycoming College from 1955 until his retirement in 1986. He also taught courses at the University of Pittsburgh, Bucknell University, Lock Haven University, and taught several courses for the American Institute of Banking.
Born Dec. 2, 1923 in Pittsburgh, he was the only child of Melba Downing and William Albert Rabold, Jr.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are sons, Robert W. Jr., of Tallahassee, Fla. and Richard T. of Bell Air, Md; daughters, Ruth P. Gomez of Port St. Lucie, Fla. and Elizabeth Ann Blumer of Arden, N.C.; seven grandchildren and one great grandson.
