Robert W. (Pap) Witmer, 74, of Pennsdale, passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 14, 2011 in Montoursville following a brief illness.
Born January 28, 1937 in Williamsport, he was a son of the late Arthur Witmer and Mayme Grace Weicht Witmer.
Robert graduated from Williamsport High School in 1955. He started operating cranes and heavy equipment before graduating from school and worked at various construction companies until his present place of business, Williamsport Crane and Rigging, located in Montousville, Pa. which he and his son have owned and operated for 30 years.
He enjoyed working side by side with his son, being with his grandchildren, restoring antique trucks, mowing his many acres of land, watching Nascar races and listening to Patsy Cline music.
To satisfy his son’s wishes for his father to pass away peacefully out of the hospital, Pap was moved to their place of business, “his home away from home” for the last 30 years. With help from family and friends, their lunchroom was turned into a comfortable and peaceful bedroom. With 24 hour care from his daughters, son, daughter in law, son in laws, brother, nephew, grandchildren and friends, Pap was able to spend his last 2 weeks of life in comfortable surroundings visited by many family, co-workers, friends and all who loved him.
Robert is survived by his son Robert L. Witmer and his wife Lynnae of Williamsport, a daughter Cathy Lambert and her husband Brian of Hughesville and a daughter Juli Alexander and her husband Jay from Montoursville and 8 grandchildren: Bobbi-Jo and Kari Witmer, Kati Gray and her husband Jordan, Corissa and Wesley Stoudt and Cody, Cole and Caylyn Alexander, a brother William and his wife Phyllis of Loyalsock, a brother Gary and his wife Martha of Missouri, and a sister Pauline Shimp of Williamsport.
Robert was also preceded in death by a brother, Arthur G. (Pete) Witmer.
