Robert J. (RJ) Cericola lost his valiant battle with cancer on August 18, 2021.  A well-respected member of the fishing community, RJ was born in Point Pleasant Beach and raised in Lavallette. He resided in Brick Township for the last 25 years.  He always had an affinity for the ocean, bay and rivers that surround our area. A master sailor and accomplished outdoorsman, RJ owned and operated his business, F/V Backwash, since 1988.

He also owned and operated Backwash Environmental which participated in clean-ups of waterways, here and up and down the east coast. RJ worked with Rutgers, the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ, and several non-profits to preserve and protect our waterways and was dedicated to environmental clean-up and conservation. RJ is a member of the Fishermen’s Dock Co-Operative in Point Pleasant Beach and was very proud to be on the Board of Directors of Save Barnegat Bay.

He is survived by his loving  wife Mary (Greenway) Cericola, his dog Lassie, his turtle Tootsie, and his devoted sisters Valerie, Rhonda and niece Christina. He also leaves behind a countless number of friends and family whose lives he touched deeply.
