Robert R. Confer, 79, of Cogan Station, died Wednesday morning, January 4, 2012, in a peaceful sleep at Valley View Nursing Center.

Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Cold War in the 1950’s, spending one year in Germany and two years stateside. When he came back to Williamsport he met his corresponding friend, the former Donna M. Evans, and they were married on November 21, 1956. They settled in Cogan Station in 1958.

Robert worked at Pullman Power for 28 years and part time at Textron for 10 years, retiring in 2000.

Born February 9, 1932 in Snow Shoe, he was the son of the late LeeRoy and Rose C. Barth Confer.

Surviving besides his wife of 55 years, Donna, are a daughter, Curta A. (Danie) McMillen of Hughesville; sons, Robert R. (Christine) Confer II of Montoursville and Franklin B. Confer of Cogan Station; sisters, Betty Lou Berry and Josephine Miller, both of Williamsport; three grandsons, Thomas, Myles and Christopher and five great-grandchildren.

Robert was predeceased by a granddaughter, Nicole, brothers, Cornelius, Norman, Paul and Gerald and sisters, Pearl Johnson, Blanche Cominski, Irene Hartfanft and Gladys Confer.
