Mr. James was born in Battle, Alabama on October 3, 1938 to late Robert L. James. Sr. and Viola Upshaw Gray. He departed this life at Decatur Morgan Hospital-DGH Campus on March 24, 2014.
He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at Shady Grove M.B. Church in Battle, Alabama and upon moving to Decatur, he united with Westside M.B. Church where he was a faithful member.
He was educated in the Russell County School System. In 1957 he moved to Lima, Ohio with his father and he met and married the late Mary J. Florence. In 1963 he moved to New York with his beloved uncle, Silas. There he met and married the late Gwendoly Connally. He was employed in New York for over forty years with Excavator Local 731 and 720 as a concrete finisher.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Gwendolyn Connally James; his parents, Robert L. James and Viola Upshaw Gray; two brothers, Rufus James Sr. and Tommy James.
He leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter, Teara C. (Brandon) Fields of Jamaica Queens, NY; five sons, Robert L. (Kimberly) James of Huntsville, Titus Connally, David (Dorothy) Connally both of Decatur, Jed Connally and Jeff Connally both of Jamaica Queens, NY; 20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren , 10 great-great grandchildren; five siblings, Mack (Mary Katherine) James of Phenix City, James (Irna) Crawford of Seale, Geannie Gray of La Grange, GA, Melvin Gray and Carolyn Gray Jackson of both of Columbus, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friend.
