Robert Paul Posthumus, 67, passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 19, 2022, at his home. He was born August 15, 1955, in Kalamazoo, MI son of the late Robert J. and Jean M. (Blue) Posthumus and had been a lifelong area resident.
In his early years Rob was a cub scout, and he was known for helping people with whatever they needed like fixing their cars. He was a jack of all trades from an early age, honest and hard working. He was known for always being nice to his younger sister Deb; but enjoyed growing up with all of his brothers and sisters. He did a lot of water skiing at a young age and enjoyed camping frequently. He also had an electric guitar that he had fun learning and playing music on.
As he got older Rob was especially known for how hard of a worker he was. Since he was young he’s been working with his hands. No one was ever sure if he actually felt pain because even if he got hurt he would be at work the next day. He always showed up. He ran a construction and swimming pool business for as long as anyone can remember. But beyond that, he had knowledge and experience in just about anything one can imagine… his sons say that’s one of the many things they will miss the most, being able to call him up at any moment and ask how to do something and he would know.
A motor head through and through, Rob loved to drive dune buggies at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes, and tinker with his own buggies in his barn. Rob enjoyed taking his boys to the dunes from a young age and has passed his love for the dunes down to his eldest son.
One of the things that stands out is when he took a bicycle and made it into a chopper bike when he was in high school. He was a mechanic on anything that had a motor or ran.
As he got older, and after he lost his wife Doris. Rob found joy in his grandkids. Ask anyone he knew and that was all he talked about, the sun rose and set in his grandkids and they will miss their Grandpa so much. His boys are thankful for the time that he got to spend with them and will always be grateful for the memories.
On July 12th, 1981 Robert married the former Doris J. Shelton who preceded him in death on July 25, 2013. Robert is survived by his sons and their wives, Nathan (Lynee) Posthumus and Zachary (Azriel) Posthumus; grandaughter Karsyn, grandson Ryder, and grandson Theo Posthumus; siblings, Tom (Margaret) Posthumus, Dave (Audrey) Posthumus, Sally (Tim) Lehrman, and Deb Posthumus; and several nieces and nephews.
