Robert O. Adams, 83 years, of Jacksonville, IL died Sunday evening, June 3, 2007 at Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville.
He was born November 15, 1923 in Chicago, IL; the son of James Franklin and Jean Sigler Adams. He married Harriet Gladys Vissering on April 10, 1948 at the Christian Church in Eureka, IL and she preceded in death on February 28, 2004.
He is survived by two sons, Matthew Raymond Adams of St. Petersburg, FL and Timothy James Adams (wife, Teresa) of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren, Christy Stange (husband, Eric) of Carpentersville, Alicia and Andrea Adams of St. Petersburg, FL, and Frank Adams of Orlando, FL; a great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cindy Hunt (surviving husband, Steve of Hugo, MN); and a brother, Roy Jack Adams.
Mr. Adams was a graduate of Morgan Park High School and received a bachelors degree from Eureka College and a masters degree from the University of Illinois. He served with the US Navy during WW II as an aviation flight mechanic instructor. A long time educator, he first served the Clinton, IL School District before joining School District #117 where he served 27 years as principal of South Jacksonville Grade School.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a former member of the Jacksonville Kiwanis Club and Tri-County Woodworkers. An avid birdwatcher, he was a member of the Audubon Society and enjoyed many birding trips. He was formerly active as a Boy Scout volunteer.
