Mr. Robert “Bob” Neal Spurrier Sr.
Mr. Spurrier, 89, of Charlotte, was born on October 6, 1922, in Charlotte. He attended Central High School in Charlotte and began college at UNC-Chapel Hill, then left to jon the 101st Airborne Div. in the US Army. Bob served in Europe from 1942-45, was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant and returned home to finish his degree at Presbyterian Colege where he was a Pi Kappa Phi. Bob then married the love of his life, Blandina Ward on April 21, 1951, and began his long-time career as a real estate broker and owner in Charlotte. Bob won numerous singles and doubles titles throughout his tennis career, which led to him being chosen as a head teaching pro at Charlotte Country Club in the mid 70’s. He was soon after inducted into the N.C. Tennis Hall of Fame in 1985. The love of playing and watching the game stayed with Bob late into his life.
Bob was predeaded in death by is wife Blandina Ward, father John Graham Spurrier Sr., mother Willie Austin, brothers John Graham Spurrier Jr., Edward Reisen Spurrier and infant sister Margaret Elizabeth.
He is survived by his daughter Deborah Elizabeth Spurrier, son Robert Neal Spurrier Jr., step-son Richard W. Autry and grandchildren, Kelsey Leigh Spurrier, Kiersten Elizabeth Spurrier, Robert Neal Spurrier III, Nicole Autry and Wes Autry, as well as nephew John Graham Spurrier III, niece Sarah Kathleen Spurrier and nephew Steven Orr Spurrier.
