Robert Monroe Knight, 89, a resident of Pasadena for 26 years, and previously of Baltimore, died on December 12, 2011 at his home after suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease for 10 years.
He was born on August 4, 1922, to the late Marie Ella and Ernest Milburn Knight, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he was raised, and as a lifelong learner, loved to attend school, taking college classes into his 60’s. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers during WWII, surviving the invasion of D-Day at Utah Beach. After the service, he worked as a railroad engineer for B&O Railroad for 40 years, remaining active with the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing the stock market, genealogy, family reunions, and always kept busy, even starting a business at age 65. He was a happy go lucky person, and gained satisfaction helping to transport the handicapped and the elderly.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years: Beatrice G. Knight; son Robert Knight of Baltimore; daughters Anne Crook Bourne, of Pylesville, Patricia Corliss, of Norfolk, VA, Rosanna Knight-Parker, of Baltimore, and son Shawn R. Knight of Pasadena. He was also the proud grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
