Maugansville, MD – Robert Loraine “Bob” Fritz, Sr., 90, of Maugansville, MD passed away on Wednesday March 22,2023 at his home. 

 

He was born on January 23, 1933, to the late Loraine Crawford and Isabelle Alice (Garnand) Fritz. 

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Anna Gehr Fritz on July 1, 2016. 

 

Bob grew up in the Smithsburg, MD area and was a class of 1951 graduate of Smithsburg High School. After high school, Bob went on to work at Glenn L. Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, MD and shortly after, served in the United States Army as a Corporal. 2 of the 3 years he served, Bob was stationed in Alaska and later served 5 years with the National Guard. Bob was employed by Charlton Bros. Transportation in Hagerstown, MD as an over the road truck driver for 31 years until his retirement in 1995.  He loved Nascar, hunting, and fishing with his boys. Bob also enjoyed restoring antique cars including a 1976 Volkswagen Beetle that he and his grandson worked on and completed together. Bob loved to drive and travel, and he and his wife Ann went on many vacations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, including 4 road trips to Alaska. Bob spent his winters in Punta Gorda, FL where he attended Souls Harbour Church of God and his summers at home in Maugansville, MD where he attended and was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God. 

 

He is survived by 4 sons, Robert Loraine “Bob” Fritz, Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Clear Spring, MD, Chris Allen Fritz and his wife Patty of Horntown, VA, Jeffrey William Fritz of Hagerstown, MD, and Ronald Wayne Fritz and his wife Karen of Starks, LA; a grandson who was raised by Bob & Anna that they considered a son Rhett Eric Fritz and his wife Amanda of Hagerstown, MD; 3 sisters Dorothy Fritz Martin of Smithsburg, MD, Shirley Fritz Harne of Boonsboro, MD, and Susan Fritz Cline of Hagerstown, MD; 2 brothers David Fritz of Mont Alto, PA and Richard Fritz of Smithsburg, MD; 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 1 step great granddaughter and his best friend Bella, his toy poodle. 

 

Besides his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a brother Winston Fritz.
