Lakeland – Robert Lester “Tillie” Harris, 86, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013 as a result of natural causes.
Born July 30, 1926 in Mulberry, FL, Mr. Harris was a lifelong resident of Polk County. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy where he served aboard the USS Wyoming during World War II. Mr. Harris enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling. He was employed by V-C/Mobil Mining and Minerals for 43 years, where he served as an electrician. Mr. Harris was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Nancy Joan Harris; son, Robert Harris Jr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Lester Harris; and sister, Donna Jackson. Mr. Harris is survived by his son, Kylen Harris; daughters, Rebecca Howell and her husband, Loren, Brenda Gavin and her husband, Nick, Barbara Waring and her husband, Martin and Medah Poyner and her husband, Brian; sisters, Peggy Strickland and Sharon Hooker and her husband Lorenzo; 12 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 6 great great grandchildren.
