Robert Lee Holmes was born on January 4, 1927 in Marathon, Iowa, the son of Roy and Neva (Lincoln) Holmes.

He attended public schools in Marathon from first through twelfth grade, graduating in 1944. Bob won several awards in basketball and football during his high school years. He made the first team on the Buena Vista County basketball team.

After graduating, he joined the Navy and was stationed in the South Pacific. He drove a landing craft, transporting troops to the beach. He was discharged from Treasure Island, California in 1946.

The next few years he spent part time farming in northwest Iowa and playing pro baseball in Texas. He was a pitcher on a farm team for the Saint Louis Browns.

He married Helen Anderson in 1950 and moved to Colorado and had two children, Bradley Dean and Trudy Lynn. Bob worked at Lockheed Martin for 31 years and retired in 1988.

Bob built a camping trailer in which the family traveled most of the USA. These were some wonderful years. He and Helen both worked on genealogy. They traveled Norway and Sweden two different times to research family. He researched the Holmes’ family back into the 14th century.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother-Jim Holmes, a sister- Shirley Henderson, a brother-in-law-Beryl Henderson, a sister-in-law-Jerry Holmes and step-father Pete Geib.

He is survived by his loving wife-Helen; children-Bradley (Deborah) and Trudy (Dan). Grandfather of Jim (Sarah), Stephen (Nicole), Bryan (Colbi) and David (Jessieca). Great-Grandfather of Tucker, Kieran, Ella, Mia, Kyleigh, Brant, Barrett, Hunter,and Colton. Brother of Mark (Susan) Geib. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends.
