Robert Lee Heward Sr, 81, of Bridgman, Michigan died Monday night, August 31, 2009 at his home with his loving family at his side. Bob was born April 10, 1928 in Three Oaks, Michigan to Ola and Ruth (Lee) Heward. He graduated from Three Oaks High School in 1951, and on December 26, 1952 he married Evelyn Lowe in Three Oaks.

Bob served his country in the US Army and also in the US Navy during the Korean War and was a Staff Sgt. for the Civil Air Patrol for 13 years. He was a police officer for the villages of Three Oaks, Grand Beach and Berrien Springs and had worked in security for Heath Corporation and then for the DC Cook Nuclear Power Plant in Bridgman. Bob enjoyed bowling, classic cars, working in his yard, and helping his neighbors. He was a member of the Bridgman American Legion Post 331.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; children, Elizabeth Heward of Raleigh, NC; Steven Heward of New Buffalo, MI; Jeffery (Cheri) Heward of Bridgman; Robert (Kathy) Heward Jr. of Mt. Dora, Florida; Sarah Heward of Bridgman; Paul Heward of San Francisco and Michael (Kerri) Heward of Sparks, NV; grandchildren, Jennifer (Justin) Joseph, Jacki (Paul) Lambert, Andrew Heward, Christopher Heward, Jeremy (Felicia) Heward, Eric Heward, Marissa Heward, Chad Encinas, Joe Schetreff, and Josh Heward; great grandchildren, Philip, Abigail, Aaron, Emily and a great granddaughter to be born in 2010; his brother Joseph (Helen) Heward of Bridgman; nieces and nephews; close friends Bill McKiddy and Cheri Faux; and his family’s pet Lulu Belle.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his grandson, William Joseph Heward.
