Evangelist Robert Lee Gholson, 95 went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 24. 2017 at 9:45pm at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, New York.

Evangelist Gholson was on born July 30, 1922 in Bracey, Virginia to the late John Gholson and Alice Harper Gholson. From this union three children were born. Robert, the late Albert Gholson, and Alma Gholson Hendricks.

Evangelist Robert Lee Gholson received his education in the Virginia Public school system and obtained his high school diploma. At eight years of age Evangelist Gholson’s parents both passed away. He lived with his grandmother until early adulthood.  He met the Gardner family, Pastor Mary Gardner and her children Samuel, Bernice, and Kessiah whom he bonded with and through their ministry accepted the Lord Jesus Christ.

He came to New York at the age of 23. At age 24 he met the late Catherine Eula Lee Pooser, they were united in marriage for 66 years.  She predeceased him on January 27, 2012.

Evangelist Gholson was employed as a Professional Cook and as a Security Officer for various banks.

In his lifetime he assisted and helped to build up ministries.  When the pastor at Mount Mariah FBH Church in Wyandanch, Long Island became sick Evangelist Gholson came to help and build the ministry, and assisted and helped to build another church in the state of Connecticut.  He became the pastor and established the work at St. Mark FBH Church located at New Lots Avenue, Brooklyn, New York.

Evangelist Gholson resigned from pastoring after losing his eyesight.  Despite his loss of vision his leader wanted him to continue in the ministry and gave him the title of National Evangelist.

Evangelist Gholson was certified bearer duly set apart and ordained as a Minister of the Gospel according to the word of God and the discipline and general laws of The Fire Baptized Holiness Church of God of Americas Inc. At the recommendation of the Awards Committee on December 29, 2007 he received an award of appreciation for his distinguished service in the New Ammies Chapel FBH Church. Evangelist Gholson loved to sing and praise the Lord. As a servant of God he was consistent in his faith and remained vigilant for Christ for more than   seventy years.

Evangelist Gholson was yet blessed even in his latter years, he met the lovely Sandra Renee Yard, who serves as an Overseer in the National Fellowship Council of Churches Worldwide Inc. (NFCC), and District Missionary. It was her faithfulness in missionary work that gave her the opportunity to come to Evangelist Gholson as a help to him for his health as well as minister to him. God used this as a vehicle to make the connection to bring them together. Evangelist Gholson said, “I often wondered if I would ever marry again because of my medical conditions and blindness”, but she said, “I don’t see your blindness”. As they grew closer their love flourished and resulted into Holy Matrimony. She affectionately called him “My Chocolate Bunny” and he called her “Honey Well”. They prayed often, constantly stayed in the word of God, and ministered together, as well as reaching out to others.

He was loved by many and he leaves to cherish his memory his wife Sandra and her two sons, sister-in-law Sharon Patterson (Michael) and daughter Dr. Sharon Patterson, his Goddaughter, Kessiah Gardner-Butler and (her husband Silas Butler and son Josiah Butler), his Godson, Joseph Batts (his wife Helen), his former sister-in-law Mother Mattie Mae Brown Wilborn and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
