Robert Lee Davenport

            Robert Lee Davenport was born April 28, 1941 to Samuel and Effie Davenport in Clarendon, Arkansas.  He attended school in Clarendon, Arkansas and graduated from Holly Grove Vocational High School in 1959.  He attended the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, graduating in 1963 with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. 

Robert moved to Los Angeles, California in 1963 where he met the love of his life, Dorothy Mae James, who he affectionately called ‘Pudding.’  He and Dorothy married in 1968 and raised three daughters together, Maggie, Earlene and Emma Jean.  Robert retired from Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, CA after a forty-year career.  He will be remembered for his love of family, good music, trips to Vegas and golf.  

Robert was preceded in death by his beloved Dorothy, his parents, Samuel and Effie Davenport, one daughter Emma Jean Williams, and four brothers, Roosevelt, Ike, John, and his twin brother Jimmy Davenport.  He leaves to mourn two daughters, Maggie Earlene Bentley, Earlene Cannady Henderson (James), three brothers Samuel (Denise), Walter (Olivia), and Lafayette (Linda) Davenport, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and others who will sorely him.
