Robert L. “Otis” Tengelitsch, 59, of C.R. 15 N., died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday (May 10, 2008) after a sudden illness.
He was born July 19, 1948, in South Bend to Robert J. and Naline L. (Chain) Tengelitsch.
Mr. Tengelitsch is survived by two sons, Larry R. Tengelitsch of Elkhart and Robert J. (Mariah) Tengelitsch of Bristol; one daughter, Vicky L. Tengelitsch of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Bernard (Peggy) Tengelitsch of Georgetown, Texas, and Eric “Rick” (Stacia) Tengelitsch of Hendersonville, Tenn.; and his former wife, Beverly A. Tengelitsch of Bristol.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Tengelitsch worked for several area RV companies as a custom automotive painter and specialized in large RV murals for 20 years. He retired in the early 1990’s because of injuries he suffered in an automobile accident.
He was an avid animal lover and horse enthusiast; he enjoyed western-style horseback riding. He rebuilt the interior of the Humane Society of Elkhart County’s livestock barn and was given an abused Appaloosa horse, which he named Shelter, to rehabilitate. Shelter was his constant companion for many years until his recent death.
Mr. Tengelitsch loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed taking his sons when they were younger. He was a former Cub Scout and Webelos den leader. He was a life-long biker, and Indianapolis Colts and Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan.
