Robert L. “Bob” Shelton, Major USAF (Ret.), 85, of Aurora, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 11, 1932 in Des Moines, IA he was the son of Lloyd and Grace (Bentley) Shelton. He married Edith White on September 8, 1956 and together they shared 61 years of marriage. Bob and Edith three children: Mark (1958), Richard (1959) and Eric (1966 deceased). Bob was youngest child in the family and spent his early years in Des Moines, Iowa during the Great Depression. The family moved to Colorado in 1947 and Bob graduated from Manual High School, class of 1950. He returned to Des Moines to attend Drake University where he joined the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, in which he remained a lifelong active member. In 1953 Bob joined US Air Force as an Aviation Cadet. He graduated from cadet training and Flight school in 1955 and was assigned to fly F-86 fighters, then C-130 Transports. Robert flew throughout the world, including tours of duty in Europe, Africa, and Southeast Asia. He retired from the Air Force after 20 years Active Duty and joined the Federal Aviation Administration as an Operations Inspector and later Manager of the Denver office. During this time he enjoyed an active social life. Bob continued to fly privately and enjoyed hunting with his sons, traveling with his wife Edith, and golfing with his many friends. In addition to his wife, Edith, he is survived by his sons, Mark (Kathleen) Shelton, and COL. Richard Shelton, USA (Ret.), his grandchildren, Felicia and Roberto Shelton, his brother, Lloyd C. (Jean) Shelton, his nieces and nephews, Arzania Williams, Jr., Karlya (Omar) Shelton Benjamin, Kyle Shelton, and Stephanie (Tom) Williams Furgerson, and his devoted Godchildren Kimberly (Colby) Potts, Kennette Jackson, and Mikel-Claire Penick. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara Jean Williams.
