ROBERT L. SCHOFIELD (Bob) 89 years young.

A lifelong resident of Syracuse, Utah. He was born at the family Syracuse farm on September 27, 1930, to parents Donald and Cynthia May Stoddard. He was their third son in a family of five boys. He helped work the farm all his early years; irrigating, hoeing beets, harvesting grain, feeding the farm animals and hauling crops along the Wasatch Front.

He quietly and calmly passed from this life Sunday afternoon, February 2, 2020.

He was an active, fun loving teenager.  Attending Syracuse schools and graduating from Davis High School.  He often said he only graduated because they wanted him out.

On a hot summer day, he married Ella Joyce Merritt at the Syracuse Church on July 29, 1949.  They were married 69 ½ years and were later sealed in the Ogden Latter Day Saint Temple September 24, 1987, having their daughter sealed to them.  Bob and Joyce attended the Ogden temple doing sealings and other ordinances for many years and later as Ordinance Workers.  Bob loved associating with and serving friends and patrons.

Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved home teaching and was dedicated to his monthly visits.

He and Joyce lead the North Davis Jr. Posse with teenagers enjoying his fun loving “horsing around”, performing at rodeos, fairs and local parade. Roberta enjoyed his time and service, his love of horses and all the time freely given.

Thanks Mom and Dad.

He worked at Hill Air Force Base for over 33 years working on maintenance of Missile Siloes throughout the United States and even overseas.  Welding was his passion.

After retiring, he and Joyce enjoyed “the Cabin” at Manor Lands in the Uintah’s becoming their home away from home as often as possible. Taking grandkids along to fish, hunt, backpack and play in the mountains.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing (not releasing), backpacking trips and planting a garden, raising fruit trees to share the harvest with friends and family.  He was a ‘cowboy’ at heart, often in Western shirts, cowboy boots and a cowboy hat on his head.  Everyone had a special nickname given to them by Bob and an array of hysterical sayings that we will never forget: “off like a dirty shirt”, “hit a bump”, “Sacra-mentoe-Cali-fornia” (you’d have had to heard it from him).  A favorite was calling everybody “Wilber”.  Often as he slowed the truck, he became air brakes on a semi.  See you on the other side” Bob Cat” is over and out.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Roberta and her family; Brad Wilson (son-in-law); five grandchildren:  Jason Wilson (Tonia), Chalese Hall (Jeff), Adam Wilson (Kelli), Josh Wilson (Alana), and Shawna Smith (Nathan) and 18 wonderful, adorable, perfect great-grandchildren.  Brothers, Bruce (Mary) Schofield (Syracuse) and Calvin Schofield (California); many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife Joyce; parents, Donald and May; brothers, Lee and Dean Schofield.

Special appreciation to Adam, for his love and service, helping them, arranging the great care provided through Davis County Senior Services and CNA’s and staff of Care Givers.
