Robert L. Martinez, 70, a resident of Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico, passed away peacefully in a hospice facility after his battle with cancer on Thursday, December 9, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his parents Emilio and Julia Martinez; brother Emilio “Sho-Sho” Martinez, Jr., also grandparents, godparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.

Robert is survived by his loving sister Kathleen L. Martinez and husband David Martinez; godsons: Joey Chavez, Davey Martinez; niece Karen Martinez; nephew Jason Martinez; beloved extended family members and friends: Mary Ortega, Rudy Ortega, George Woolley, Diane Moya; also family: Nancy May, Michael Valdez, Robert Candelaria, and many other loved ones.

Robert was a good son, brother, uncle, and godfather. He graduated from Rio Grande High School in 1970. He completed business school at TVI. He loved to dance and was always in the night clubs in his prime. He went on to make a career in the grocery industry thru cashiering and management at big corporations like Bag n Save, Furr’s, and eventually retiring from Smith’s. Robert was a customer favorite and always had a line at his register because of his friendly and outgoing personality. He also had the occasional unruly customer but he knew how to deal with the encounters, often leading to cheering and applause for his responses. He also liked the casino because he was lucky. He once walked away hitting the jack-pot in the slot machines. Robert was always laughing with family and friends telling all his wonderful life stories.

He will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
