Robert Louis Long, 82, of Wallingford, adored husband of Kathleen Long, entered into Eternal Life on Thursday, October 9 with his family at his side. Born on March 20, 1932 in Solon, Iowa, he was the son of the late William Long and Anna Rohret Long.
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen McElligott Long; his brother Richard Long of Solon, IA; his five children, Denice Jones (Dermot) of Vernon, CT, Lisa Long of San Anselmo, CA, Diane Long of Norwalk, CT, Brian Long (Jennifer) of Orange, CT, Stephen Long (Anne) of Cheshire, CT; and five grandchildren, Will, Catie, Matthew, Gabby and Luke.
Bob had an adventurous childhood growing up on the family farm in Solon, Iowa and graduated from Mercy High School in Iowa City. He served in the US Navy and received his Engineering degree from University of Iowa and his MBA from University of New Haven. He was employed by Bayer Pharmaceuticals for several decades.
Robert valued his family above all else and was always there for support and advice – usually with an added dose of humor. He was a devoted Catholic and deeply spiritual. Robert was an avid woodworker, golfer and enjoyed figuring out how to fix just about anything mechanical.
