Robert L. Grove, 76, of Galesburg, died at 4:45 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019, at Heartland Health Care and Rehab, Galesburg. Robert was born June 21, 1942, in Elmhurst, the son of Harry Lee and Mattie (Gilmore) Grove.
He received his B.S. in Education from Western Illinois University in 1965 and his M.S. in Education from Indiana University in 1967. His professional teaching career was from 1968 to 1991 working in Erie, Galesburg, Carthage, Collinsville, and Galva Schools. Bob owned and operated Photography by Grove in Erie and Galesburg from 1974 to 2002, and also owned and operated Bob’s Barber and Styling Shop in Davenport, IA, and Galesburg from 1992 to 2002. Bob worked for the Maytag Corp. from 1995 until his retirement in 2006. Robert was active in many different facets of life. He enjoyed being a hospice volunteer, a Christian, and a guidance counselor. He also enjoyed many different creative endeavors including creative writing, gardening, collecting gemstones, and antiques. He was also a retired single-engine airplane owner and pilot. He was also the past president of 3 Quad Cities Photography Clubs and started the River City Camera Club in Clinton, IA. He was the photojournalism librarian for the Photography Society of America and held offices in Central Illinois Camera Club Association.
