Robert L. Christy, 89 of Upland, IN died Monday August 12, 2013 in Muncie, IN. Mr. Christy was retired from Warner-Gear Company, Muncie after 30 years where he had been employed until 1977; he also was a Matthews area farmer.
He was born September 25, 1923 at Washington Township, Delaware County the son of the late William H. and Edith (Yeley) Christy. He married his wife, of 63 years, JoAnn Nelson September 4, 1949 at Muncie, Indiana, she survives. He was a graduate of Gaston High School class of 1942 and was a WWII Navy veteran serving on the USS West Virginia. He was at the Battle of Surigao Strait, the last battle of the battleships.
He was a former member of the Delaware County Farm Bureau, where he served several years on the board of directors. He was a member of the Matthews Euchre Club for over 40 years. He was a former member of the Matthews American Legion Post. Robert loved and enjoyed being with his family, he enjoyed visiting with people and that is why he enjoyed traveling so much. He has traveled in all 50 State of the United States. Farming and card playing were his passion.
Also surviving are 2 daughters, Marilyn (Mike) Conatser, Fairlawn. Virginia, Vickie (Mark) Walters, Upland, IN. Son: John (Lisa) Christy, Gaston, IN 4 Grandchildren: Shane Walters, Columbus IN Wendy Conatser, Muncie, IN Chris (Heather) Pruitt, Indianapolis, IN Jeff (Andrea) Pruitt, Gaston, IN 6 Great-Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters; Mary Christy, Martha Christy, and Leona Christy. 2 brothers; Edgar and Albert Christy.
