PERRY – Robert Kent Lund, 78, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 19, 2016. He was born in Ogden, Utah on July 2, 1937 to Hyrum Milton (“Bud”) Lund and Hazel Davis Lund.
After graduating from Ogden High School in 1955, Bob attended Weber College before transferring to the University of Utah. He married his childhood sweetheart, Marilyn Mayberry, on June 20, 1958 in the Logan LDS Temple, which he said was “the BEST decision of my life”. Bob graduated from University of Utah with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. The couple resided first in Ogden, Utah, then in Los Angeles, California, and finally made their permanent home in Perry, Utah, where they raised six children together.
Bob was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and spent his days serving his Heavenly Father. Bob served faithfully in many callings, including Bishop of the Perry Second Ward, the Stake President of the Brigham City South and Willard Stakes, and Regional Representative. After Bob’s retirement, Bob and Marilyn served in the position of mission president for the Vilnius, Lithuania Mission (Baltic Mission), which at the time included the countries of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Belarus. Bob and Marilyn served a second time in the Romania, Bucharest Mission, mostly working with the youth. In September 2012, Bob was called as a sealer in the Brigham City Temple and found great joy in serving.
Bob worked at Thiokol Corporation for thirty-eight years. He started as an Associate Engineer and retired as Vice President of Science & Engineering and Technical Director. He found the work at Thiokol fulfilling, whether he was working on air bags or rocket engines.
Bob had a great love for golf. He enjoyed the game, built many relationships, and learned a lot about life on the golf course. He also enjoyed backpacking, fishing, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed life to its fullest and remained firm in his belief that “family is all that matters”.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marilyn, and their six children: Kent (Alisa) Lund of Surprise, AZ; Barb (Ritchie) Olsen of Perry, UT; Kathy (Mike Davis of Roy, UT; Jeff (Marlisa) Lund of North Ogden, UT; Kris (Dan) Dearing of North Ogden, UT; and Mike(Jenny) Lund of Kaysville, UT.
