Robert Joseph Duncan, M.D., 89, of LaSalle, passed away Saturday, December 25, 2010, at 6:43 AM in his home. Dr. Duncan was born on September 30, 1921 in LaSalle to Stuart and Henrietta (Noon) Duncan.
He married Jane R. Weymouth on November 6, 1948 in St. Andrews Church in Delevan, WI. He was a graduate of St. Bede Academy, Holy Cross College, and received his Medical Degree from Loyola University School of Medicine in Chicago. Dr. Duncan served his internships at Wesley Hospital in Chicago, Cook County Hospital, and Lahey Clinic in Boston Massachusetts and was a senior resident of Urology at Hines Veterans Hospital. He was an Army Veteran serving from 1946-1948 as a Captain in the Medical Corps. He served his residencies at Cook County Hospital in Chicago from 1948-1949, Lahey Clinic in Boston from 1949-1951 and was Sr. Resident of Urology in the V.A. Hospital in Hines, IL from 1951-1953.
Dr. Duncan was in private practice from 1954-1987 as a Urologist. He was on the hospital staffs of St. Marys Hospital in LaSalle, Peoples Hospital in Peru, IVCH in Peru and St. Margarets Hospital in Spring Valley. He was a member of St. Patricks parish in LaSalle serving as a Eucharistic Minister. He served on the Board of Directors of LaSalle State Bank. He was a member of Deer Park County Club, LaSalle Lions Club, American Legion. He was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Diplomate of the American Board of Urology, American Urological Association, American Medical Association, and past President of the LaSalle County Medical Society.
He is survived by his wife Jane of LaSalle; two daughters, Laura A. Duncan of Chicago and Marcia Bothe of Arizona; one son, James R. Duncan of Peru; 4 grandchildren, Richard James Feltes, Max (Mackie) Duncan, Haley (Birdie) Duncan, and Alex (Moose) Duncan; He was preceded in death by one son, Robert Gerard Duncan; one sister, Helen Duncan Haskins, four brothers, John S. Duncan II, Paul E. Duncan, Thomas Duncan, and Abbot David Duncan, OSB.
