Robert “Bob” J. Norton, 87, of Guilford and formerly of Milford, entered into peaceful rest surrounded by his family at Connecticut Hospice in Branford on July 31, 2006. Robert leaves his beloved wife of 59 years, Margaret (English) Norton of Guilford, formerly of Milford and Topsfield, ME and his son Robert J. Norton Jr. of Granby and daughter Maureen A. Lutar of North Guilford. Robert was born in Bridgeport on March 9, 1919. He was the son of the late Robert and Margaret (Culletin) Norton. He was raised in Stratford at their home in Longbrook Park. Robert was a 1937 graduate of Stratford High School , where he played baseball and varsity ice hockey. Robert was a veteran of the Army Air Corps and a veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater as a radio/waist gunner on the Army’s B-25 aircraft. While in the Army he was decorated with the Air Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with seven Bronze Stars, and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze star, alone with the Aerial Gunner Badge. He was discharged with honor and had many wonderful stories to tell. He retired from the U.S.
