August 29, 1922, the wish of Euna May and Robert Clive Fisher came true when their brown-eyed baby, Robert John, was born in St. Luke’s hospital in Boise, Idaho. Ninety-four years ago!
Bob was a normal, curious child. He attended elementary schools in Boise, Twin Falls, and Burley before graduating from Nampa High School in 1940.
He sampled Nampa Business College, The College of Idaho and the University of Idaho. In 1942 Bob joined the US Navy and was sent to boot camp at Farragut, Idaho, during the bitter cold winter months. He was assigned to the new ocean going tug Mataco ATF36 and then the aptly named WWI USS Turkey ATO1430 from 1942 to 1945. Ocean going tugs towed targets, water barges, ammunition barges, and damaged warships. They touched Australia and many South Pacific Islands during their tours. Bob was a radio operator and ranked Radioman Second Class when he was honorably discharged in December 1945.
The following year Bob enrolled at Oregon State College where he met Norma Jean Duspiva, a native Nampan and future wife. They were married April 10, 1949. After graduation they returned to Nampa where Bob was employed by the Albert Dickinson Company, a major seed firm. Several years later he was transferred to Salem, Oregon.
In Salem, Bob and Jean went from being a couple with two jobs and no children to two children and no jobs when they adopted their children. That act made them “The Fisher Four” and brought much joy to their lives.
Bob was hired by the Oregon Department of Employment and the family moved to Eugene, Oregon. Eventually he was promoted to Fraud Investigator and served until he retired in 1982. They returned to Idaho in 2015.
Bob was a man of integrity. His interest in Amateur Radio led to over forty years being the Home of the call W7OTM. He had a lifelong interest in photography. Computers brought on genealogical study and Bob meticulously researched information on the Fisher line. He loved to drive and traveled many miles and enjoyed experiences in their R.Vs.
Survivors include his wife, Jean; daughter, Rebecca; son, Alan (Lori) and extended family; many nieces and nephews; and his brother, Bill (Sue).
Bob passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 in Meridian, Idaho.
