Robert J. Whartenby, of Burlington Township, died Monday, October 27, 208 at his residence at the age of 82. Mr. Whartenby was a native of Philadelphia and a long time Burlington County resident. He worked as a truck driver for the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper until retiring in the 1980’s. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War Two who was honorably discharged after seeing service in the Asiatic-Pacific Area aboard the USS Pittsburg and receiving several campaign medals. He was a golf enthusiast and member of the Springfield Golf Club where he also worked on a part-time basis.
He is survived by his wife, Marion (nee Barrett), his daughter and her companion, Kathleen Mansfield and Mike Lagorga, of Roebling, his son and daughter in law, John and Kathi, of Gibbsboro, his grandchildren, Christina, John, Corrin, Brian, Michele, Bobby, Lauren, and Steven, as well as eight great-grandchildren and his sister, Eleanor Humphrey, of Egg Harbor Township.
