“They called me Bobby Joe” –

Robert Joseph Maloy was born in Sioux City, Iowa on January 15, 1935.  He was the eldest of three children born to Mark and Mary Maloy.  His siblings are Tom Maloy and Mary Ann Maloy Bambini.

The Maloy family moved many times in Iowa while the young Maloy children were growing up.  Bob graduated valedictorian of his class from Mondamin High School in Mondamin, Iowa.

Bob attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska for one year.  He then went on to enlist in the United States Army for two years.  While he was in the Army, he had boasting rights to many things, but was most proud of his claim to fame as being the “fastest typist around!”

Bob met the love of his life, Betty Jeane Blackburn, while dining at a Kings Restaurant in Omaha during his time in Dental School.  Betty and Bob were married September 30, 1963, and Bob willingly stepped into one of the most important roles of his life – becoming dad and friend to Betty’s three small children, Diane, Denise and Kevin.  Kelly, Shawn and Todd quickly followed.

Bob’s first dental office was located in the 1st Bank Building on Broadway and Union.  He then moved to his 2nd office located at Federal Boulevard and Evans.  One time, Bob had taken the kids and his Mom to the Federal office.  The kids were hanging out of the screenless windows when Mary expressed her concern.  Bob’s response was, “don’t worry, it would be one less to take care of!”

Bob opened his last dental office in 1975 at 5419 S. Curtice Street.  He grew a wonderful practice and eventually his steadfast sidekick, daughter Kelly, joined him in 1984.  He practiced until March 31, 2008.  Today, son Shawn is the Dr. Maloy practicing at Old Towne Dental in Littleton, Colorado.  Dr. Bob is loved dearly by his patients and they inquire about him daily.  The legend of his honesty and fairness live on.

Many hours were spend fishing and hunting with his sons and Brother-in-Law, Don Bambini.

Bob is survived by his wife, Betty, daughters Diane Scavuzzo (Tom), Denise Prentice, Kelly Maloy, sons Kevin Prentice and Shawn Maloy (Julie), 12 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, sister Mary Ann Bambini (Don), brother Tom (Helen) and numerous nieces, newphews and friends.  He is proceeded in death by his parents, Mark and May Maloy and his son Todd Michael Maloy.

Pops will be missed.  Be we know he is on his beloved cruise ship, waiting to disembark to the most glorious golf course imaginable.
