Robert J. Burke, 82, of 1541 Maple Ave., Galesburg, died at 12:40 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2008 at Methodist Medical Center, Galesburg.
Robert was born on November 7, 1925 in Galesburg, the son of Harry and Gertrude McKillip Burke. He married Lois Howes on September 2, 1950 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Bloomington, Illinois. Surviving Bob are his wife, Lois of Galesburg; 2 sons, Robert E. Burke of Galesburg and Tim Burke of Interlochen, MI; 2 daughters, Jane (Len) Antosiak of Ypsilanti, MI and Ann (Chris) Pemberton of Clinton, MI; 2 sisters, Kathryn Ostrander of Galesburg and Mary Thomas of Kingwood, TX. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Bob graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1943. He then graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1950. He served in the US Navy from 1943-1946. Bob worked at Maytag as a Traffic Manager from for 35 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Father J.O. Hunt Knights of Columbus Council 556, St. Vincent DePaul Society and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. He had coached the Red Sox in little league. He was also the 7th and 8th grade basketball ball coach at St. Joseph’s Academy for several years.
